Our tips for female travelers coming to Qatar.

I’m excited to share with you tips that will help you as a female traveler in Qatar or a new resident coming to Qatar.

So you got your visa to come to Qatar? Congratulations!

Transportation options in Qatar

The local government taxi service is called *Karwa*, and apps like Uber are widely used. However, keep in mind that you cannot order Ubers from the airport. Only Karwa taxis are permitted there, and you’ll need to queue at the taxi rank. The system is efficient, and you can pay by card. Within the city, Uber tends to be cheaper than Karwa, but Karwa taxis offer free WiFi.

If you want to use the metro to get to your hotel please make sure your flight lands in Qatar morning 6 am to 9:30pm as this gives you enough time to use the metro and switch to any of the necessary lines to get your locations as there are red, green and golden line. Google maps accurately shows you the walking distance.

My tip please ditch renting a car.

The Qatar metro has family only cabins adding to comfort and safety of women.

For female hygiene products such as pads and tampon’s can be delivered through apps named Talabat , Snoonu and Khulud Pharmacy .

Doha has an efficient metro system and buses, but walking can be challenging. The heat can be intense, and pedestrian crossings may keep you waiting for a while. Also, jaywalking is illegal, so be cautious.

Safety for Female Travelers

Qatar is extremely safe for solo female travelers. It’s one of the safest cities in the world, with a very low crime rate. There are also many women-only areas for added comfort. I’m a woman born in Qatar and I can go out in Qatar anytime of the day and never concerned about anything because it’s so safe for any woman.

Should you need emergency assistance for a medical, fire or traffic crisis, dial 999. In case of a serious emergency and explain the situation to the call handler.

Dress Code in Public Areas

Modesty is key in public areas to respect the culture —your clothing should cover your shoulders and knees. Hotels and hotel beaches are an exception to this rule.

Stopover in Doha

You can potentially enjoy a free stopover in Doha through Qatar Airways’ stopover program, but this is subject to change. To qualify, your flights need to be at least 12 hours apart, and you may be eligible for a free stay of 1 to 4 nights. Be sure to check with Qatar Airways for the latest details.

Alcohol in Qatar

Alcohol cannot be brought into Qatar. If you have any in your luggage, it will be flagged and confiscated at arrivals. Alcohol can only be purchased from select locations with a license or at certain establishments that have special licenses.

Work Week in Qatar

The workweek runs from Sunday to Thursday, with weekends being Friday and Saturday. Friday is a holy day, so many businesses and services don’t operate until later in the afternoon. The metro, for instance, starts running at 2 pm on Fridays.

Weather in Qatar

Be mindful of the weather, especially from June to September, when temperatures can soar between 40°C to 50°C. During these months, it’s uncommon for people to be outside between 10 am and 3 pm due to the heat. The best time to visit Qatar is outside of this period.

Currency and Plugs

The currency is the Qatari Riyal (QR), though many places will accept £, $, and €. Qatar uses UK-style 3-pin plugs, but most sockets are universal.

I hope these tips help you navigate Qatar smoothly!
